10 Things to do in the Lake District over May Bank Holiday Weekend!

 

Will you be in the Lake District this coming bank holiday weekend? You may already have your favourite places to visit or some activities planned, but if you’re looking for more to do in order to make the most of your three-day weekend, try some of these special events coming to the area from May 27th!

Saturday & Sunday - Explore the Rivers at Ullswater Steamers

Eden Rivers Trust invite you to join them for a weekend of river activity and pond dipping at Glenridding, home to some of the most spectacular views the Lake District has to offer. While you’re in this beautiful area, you could also check in at Pooley Bridge and Aira Force to complete what is sure to be a great trip out.

 

All Weekend - Guided Kayak & SUP Tours of Windermere at Total Adventure

Total Adventure in Windermere are celebrating National Go Canoeing Week from Saturday May 27th through to June 3rd by offering guided tours of Lake Windermere’s islands and scenery by canoe or stand-up paddleboard. There will be two excursions per day from 9.30am or 3pm and booking ahead is essential.

Saturday - Ninebarrow Folk Duo - Charity Concert at Kendal United Reformed Church

Kendal United Reformed Church will host Dorset’s award-winning folk duo, Ninebarrow, plus two local supporting acts at 7.30pm on Saturday May 27th. Considered a must-see act, entry is £10 on the door with all proceeds from the event going to the Manna House Charity in Kendal.

 

Saturday and Monday - After the Dance at Theatre by the Lake

Described as “a dazzling dissection of love, class and the capacity for self-deceit,” After the Dance focuses on the outrageous and glamorous lifestyle of David and Joan Scott-Fowler. Set in the 1920s, the play has recently received adulation as one of the great works of a master dramatist, as the Scott-Fowlers’ choice of lifestyle comes into question as their youth begins to erode. The show starts at 7.30pm on Saturday and Monday, at Lakeside, Keswick’s Theatre by the Lake.

 

All Weekend - Antique & Collectors Fair at Grasmere Village Hall

Offering a fine collection of jewellery, antiques, china and more, this small gathering of local dealers can be found at the heart of Grasmere village and spans across the three-day weekend, meaning you can visit and browse whenever your schedule allows!

Saturday - Beatrix Potter’s Victorian Magic Lantern Show at The Old Laundry Theatre

For a unique, intimate performance, don’t miss this traditional Magic Lantern show where Beatrix Potter tells her story. Spanning from her childhood, through her journey of discovery as an illustrator and storywriter and beyond, the production is accompanied by eye-catching slideshow scenes of the Lake District and original footage of Victorian London.

 

Sunday - Peter Rabbit Tea Parties at Beatrix Potter World

It’s afternoon tea with a twist, as Beatrix Potter World in Windermere caters for all the family with a party lunch. Sandwiches, sausage rolls and cakes are on offer at a Peter Rabbit-themed 2-hour event at 1pm on Sunday May 28th. All children in attendance also receive a present, a balloon and a reading of the Tale of Peter Rabbit from a very special guest!

 

All Weekend - Fairy and Dragon World at Hayes Garden Centre, Ambleside

Running all Summer long from April until the end of September, Hayes Garden World’s popular Fairy World attraction is back for 2017, this time with added dragons! Children can choose their quest to go in search of fairy doors or dragons’ eggs on the way to Unicorn Meadow; with egg racing, coin fishing and other magical activities along the way!

Saturday and Sunday - Caribbean Cooking and Showstopper Baking at Keswick Tourism

Discover recipes and know-how from a practical Caribbean cooking course led by Sabrina, who will show you how to cook authentic and healthy dishes from her native Trinidad! The course begins at 9.30am on Saturday 27th May at Keswick Cookery School, which also invites you to discover the secret to the perfect Showstopper Bake at the same time on Sunday 28th!

 

Saturday and Sunday - Windermere Record & CD Fair at Ladyholme Community Centre

Join record collectors from all over the UK and abroad at the Windermere Record and CD fair as it enters its 6th year since it was established! As well as receiving a free tea or coffee on arrival and viewing a wide selection of discs of all genres, visitors also have the opportunity to have their own collections valued or purchased following expert advice.
