Come for the Views, Stay for a Run!
When you think about the Lake District, it’s probably common to picture the rolling hills and fells, winding roads and of course the gentle, swaying water of the Lakes themselves. If you love walking and exploring in the great outdoors with some of the country’s most breath-taking views, a staycation in Cumbria is the ideal choice.
But did you know the Lakes is also home to a series of annual fell and trail running events considered to be among the most challenging and picturesque in Europe?
If you plan ahead and make sure your stay in the Lakes coincides with one of the numerous Lakeland Trails events across the year, you could also be taking on the challenge of a marathon, half-marathon or anything up to a 55k or 110k Ultra-marathon, all the while surrounded by the beautiful lakes and fells.
If a shorter distance is more for you, there are regularly 5k and 10k runs as well as trail challenges for the kids, and many of these can be entered on the same day as the longer events.
If a holiday trail running in the Lake District sounds like your kind of thing, you can enter or read all about any of the following Lakeland Trails events at http://www.lakelandtrails.org/ :
