Weddings in the Lake District - Where to Look!

Have you said ‘I do’ this summer? If so, first of all congratulations! And second, you’re probably already picturing the special day, planning every moment in your head from colour schemes to seat covers…

But there’s one thing that makes every wedding special in its own way; the venue. We’re lucky enough to be on the edge of the Lake District with quick and easy access to some of the UK’s most stunning, dramatic landscapes. So how does a budding bride and groom find ‘the one’ when it comes to wedding venues in the Lakes?

We’ve put together a short list of some of our favourite places you could look at as you plan to get married in the Lake District! Read on to discover open-air spaces on the Lake, country mansions, wedding barns and more!

Cote How - Rydal

We start our list on the edge of Rydal Water, a popular walking and fishing destination located just beyond Ambleside. Rydal’s scenery is what makes it truly special, with the surrounding fells perfectly framing the water in a way that creates an intimate backdrop for your wedding photos!

Cote How can be found hidden away at the top of the connecting lane between the nearby National Park car park and the Southernmost end of Rydal. The venue features options of a Georgian style house, large rustic barn or an outdoor event and is well worth a viewing to appreciate!

Three Hills Barn - Torpenhow

Less than 15 minutes from Keswick in the North of the national park, Torpenhow (pronounced ‘Truh-penn-uh’ locally) is home to a largely unknown gem of a venue. Three Hills Barn can be found on at one end of the small village.

The beautiful 19th century barn is set in the middle of 300 acre farm, with 25 acres of woodland and a long private road giving this venue a unique feeling of seclusion.

The barn can seat 150 people with toilets, a licensed bar, kitchen, parking, reception drinks lawn and gardens.

Askham Hall - Askham, Near Penrith

Right next door to the breathtaking Lowther Castle estate is Askham Hall. Easily accessible from both the A6 between Kendal and Penrith and the M6 Motorway, Askham Hall is actually a combination of venues, offering a 156-person barn, a medieval hall suitable for 70 guests or an outdoor pavillion ceremony.

Drinks, canopies, fireworks and everything in between can all be provided by a wedding venue that will truly tailor your day for your wants and needs!

Another Place - Ullswater

Despite what the name suggests, it would be dangerous to write our next venue off as ‘just another place...’ Those familiar with the Lake District beyond the pull of Windermere and Ambleside will attest to the outstanding natural beauty of Ullswater, popular for long walking and running trails, camping, steamer boats and of course, dramatic scenery.

Another Place is a 100-room hotel set in 18 acres, right on of Ullswater with a quarter of a mile of private shore all to itself. Speaking of which, the hotel has an unbelievable package available for you to hire out the entire place; rooms, grounds, the full works, for 23.5 hours on your big day. They also cater for smaller groups, right down to intimate ‘just the two of you’ weddings.

Storrs Hall - Windermere

If Windermere is the destination you have your hearts set on, then what could be better than a Grade-II listed Georgian mansion for your special day? How about a carefully-restored Georgian mansion overlooking the area’s best-known Lake with unrivalled panoramic views?

Storrs Hall provides luxurious ceremonies outside overlooking the lake shore and inside too, with the mansion’s drawing room, complete with balcony, its most decadent reception room.
